 Hunkmegs Issue
I downloaded a map over at EFFILES that looks fun. I already had adjusted hunkmegs like I have for the Argas Effect and the game restarted ok. But ran into this problem when I tried to start the map:
Hunk_FreeTempMemory: bad magic
Suggestions, oh wise ones?

com_hunkmegs 100
Which I only did because the map in question required something above 37.
My RAM is 256
What is this bad magic statement all about? I have never heard of such a thing.

Add this line into your autoexec.cfg:
Code: seta com_hunkMegs "128"
It should work then.

I go to a universtity for radio and theatre... I don't know anything about these "hunkmegs," but the first timeI had a hunkmeg error, I think I set mine to around 500... It's all good.

I'd only try that if i had 1GB of RAM. Generally it's not a good idea to allocate much more than half ur total RAM to the game (unless u have alot of RAM); u risk crashing ur computer if u do.

Really? Huh.... how do you like that? I really don't know much about computers. My buddies from high school put mine together for me... I don't have a a whole gig of RAM, but I have a bunch...

It'd also depend on what software was running in the background as well. Norton Antirirus and Internet Security use a fair amount of memory at all times. As long as there is enough RAM to run all ur programs u'll be fine. How much RAM does ur machine have? 768 MB?

I got so frustrated the other night that I removed all the extra pk3 files and adjusted hunkmegs to 100 again. This managed to get the map working. I recall having to do that with the Argas Effect to get it started as well. And that was just guess work on my part.
Can the memory be an issue if you have other maps or mods that use an install program?
Even though I seem to have solved my own problem, that term 'bad magic' was certainly odd.

 HUNKMEGS Problem
When I was playing Elite Force, I set HUNKMEGS to 1701. When I go to start the game, it won't start and gives the message "Hunk data failed to allocate 1701 megs". And, I can't start the game to change it. Can someone please help me?

 Re: HUNKMEGS Problem
Sounds to me that you have allocated far too much RAM memory to hunkmegs. At maximum you should only allocate half of your available RAM, ie. if you have 2 gigabytes of ram you can only go as high as 1000 megs. In my own experience, you should only have to allocate about 200 to the hunkmegs to get any of the maps here to work. Unfortunately, I do not know of any other way to fix this other than to uninstall and reinstall Elite Force. This will start you off with the default setting for hunkmegs and you can try setting it higher...but not TOO high! I hope this helps,
